Amber Murphy, an excellent student in most subjects, was struggling with her fourth year maths last year. “I didn't have a clue,” she recalled. Her mother, Valerie, sought extra instruction for her daughter, not from her school, but from the local tutor doctor. More and more parents are following Mrs Murphy's lead and buying supplemental education from quality-controlled tutors. “There is more concern about education than ever before and more parents are paying attention to their children's learning problems,” said Carmel O’Brien, education consultant with Tutor Doctor, “so it is important that this form of supplemental education is managed and structured in a way that parents, students, and teachers can have full confidence in the service.”
