Chart toppers The Feeling lined up for Royal Theatre gig

Fri, Aug 01, 2008

A number one album and numerous top ten singles have made The Feeling one of the most talked-about acts to come out of Britian in the past few years. Tracks like “Fill My Little World”, “Sewn”, “Never Be Lonely” and “Love it When You Call” saw their debut album Twelve Stops and Home rocket up the charts in 2006. Sixteen months of solid touring ended in May 2007 during which they had played more than 200 shows and sold over a million copies of their critically-acclaimed debut album, 'Twelve Stops And Home. The Feeling are not one of those bands who respond to success by getting grumpy and telling you how hard their lives are now. This, after all, was a band who had previously spent several ski seasons as a covers band in the Alps, playing two sets a night in two different bars (and carting their own gear between them). "That was bloody hard work, for bugger all money" says frontman Dan Gillespie Sells. "But we did it because we loved it. And we still do."

New exhibition at Custom House

Fri, Jul 25, 2008

An exhibition of new multimedia works entitled Lost Country by Feargal O’Malley opens Thursday July 31 at 7.30pm at Custom House Studios Gallery, The Quay, Westport, Co Mayo. Lost Country is an exhibition exploring place, memory and the links between past and present. It focuses on construction of landscapes from childhood memories of time spent in Westport, and the day-to-day life of the artist growing up and as an adult in Craigavon, Northern Ireland. Certain memories come to mind even though we are located in completely different environments. Each piece reflects how stimulus from the artist's life in Craigavon can prompt memories of his childhood holidays in the west of Ireland and inform a visual portrayal of these memories. The resulting imagery can somewhat idealistic - given the dramatic changing landscape in both areas - a result of the recent housing boom.

The exhibition will run until August 24. The Custom House Gallery is located at the Quay, Westport and is open every day. For more information call 098 28735.
