Former county footballer Mick Higgins had one of those special moments on the par three, third at Westport Golf Club on Sunday. For many golfers, to hole an eight foot putt so early in the round is a common occurrence. But when that par three is actually your 21st hole and the putt is to get your team into the quarter final of the winter league; well that’s another story altogether. The quarter final draw for the Winter League is as follows: Davy Walsh v Bill Hopkins/Jerry Moran; Mick Higgins v Pat Moran; Martin Halpin v Christy Madigan; Austin Gibbons v Larry Hingerton.

In their respective letters to the membership both club captains, Mary McNicholas and Sean Fitzgerald, while “tipping their hat” to the current economic situation, encourage both women and men to enjoy their golfing season and to make themselves available for club teams and to participate in the many social activities that are planned for the year.
