Imagine high speed broadband expands to further areas in Mayo

Imagine is to roll out more high speed broadband services in Mayo. This will make high speed broadband available to homes in the area from Ballina to Castlebar and Islandeady to Swinford and the rural areas in between. This further investment in the county is a result of the large demand for services in the broadband black spots that Imagine has already covered.

Announcing the latest broadband infrastructure build Brian O'Donohoe, commercial director of Imagine, said: "Significant numbers of people in rural Mayo have registered for the service on and so we have prioritised these latest black spots from Islandeady to Swinford. Our approach is to support areas where we see people registering interest and the service is having a huge positive impact for the communities where Imagine LTE has been deployed."

Following the success of its network roll out covering rural areas of Mayo, Imagine is now expanding its network in Mayo which will connect many more communities to Imagine’s new national LTE fibre network. Imagine now has a presence in more than half the counties in Ireland with rural businesses, people working from home, and households with children in education being the big winners so far.

Up to now getting high speed broadband, using the existing phone lines to connect to fibre, was dependent on the planned upgrade of the eir network and local exchange to fibre. But even then this is limited to homes and businesses close to fibre or the local exchange. In regional and rural areas this has left thousands of homes and businesses unsure when and if they will be able to get connected. These homes can now check if they can get the service at

Instead of having to use the copper network to connect homes to fibre enabled exchanges, Imagine is using the very latest next generation wireless technology Advanced LTE to connect homes and businesses directly to the nearest fibre point on its network. This means that the service is not limited to areas close to an exchange and can be provided to anyone within a coverage area of up to 13km.

What can you do to get Imagine in your area
