Birds Euroshow Funfair returns to the military barracks

Birds Euroshow Funfair returns for its annual visit to the Military Barracks in Castlebar on Thursday April 28. The funfair will be held in association with Castlebar Boxing Club.

The boxing club has promoted funfairs and carnivals in Castlebar since the 1970s when it was used as a way of raising funds to purchase and refurbish its building on the Mall. The historic building was formerly Lord Lucan’s rent house and later a Church of Ireland school.

The building was extended and equipped as a modern boxing gymnasium and the ground floor section was renovated to cater for Castlebar Senior Citizens before they moved to their present location at Castle Street Car Park.

Once again this year, the always popular fireworks display will take place as part of the funfair on Friday April 29, courtesy of Rocket Pyrotechnics from Wicklow, Ireland’s leading fireworks company.

This year’s carnival has lots of attractions for all ages including Bird’s famous jungle river log flume ride, the waltzer, dodgems, wave swing, traditional carousel, among many other favourites.

The funfair will incorporate the May Bank Holiday and finish on Sunday May 8. Previous carnivals held in association with Birds have taken place at the Military Barracks and Hobans’ Car Park off Main Street.
