Castlebar trialogue meeting

Trialogue is an open forum for discussion on mental health issues. Users of the mental health services, carers, health care professionals, their friends and everyone in the community are welcome. A trialogue group is a neutral space where communities can gather to develop their understanding of mental health issues, the challenges of maintaining mental health and to transform thinking on developing better services and healthy communities. The group meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm in GMIT, Castlebar. The next meeting is on Tuesday April 12 in GMIT at 7pm, and is about self-awareness. Room number is expected to be P105 - it's up the main stairs.

Nobody's Talking to Me

Nobody's Talking to Me comedy play written and directed by Tommy Marren of Midwest Radio will be staged in Kilmaine Community Centre on Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23 at 8pm. The Mary Robinson Centre begins Human Rights and Migration Schools’ Programme

The Mary Robinson Centre begins a new phase of activity this month, with its 2016 schools’ programme beginning in secondary schools. Designed to inspire and engage students of today – and the leaders of tomorrow - on the importance of human rights, these sessions will focus on the timely issues of human rights and migration. Talks are tailored to connect with second level students’ geography and history programmes, and will cover patterns of migration through the ages, from Ireland’s Famine to the current refugee crisis. Students who attend the talks will be challenged to consider the relevant issues in a human rights context. A limited number of pilot sessions for programme are planned, and The Mary Robinson Centre would be delighted to include more schools later in the year. Swinford Tidy Towns

Now that the clocks have gone forward, Swinford Tidy Towns Wednesday evening clean ups will resume from Wednesday, April 13. If you would like to help out, the group will be meeting every Wednesday at 7pm at the No Name Club on Chapel St. Saturday mornings continue as usual at 11 am all year.

Console fundraiser at Castlebar Indoor Markets

Console Suicide Awareness are holding a fundraising sale of their successfull 'Cosy up to Console' handknits at the Castlebar Indoor Food and Craft Markets in the Tennis Pavillion this Friday morning 9am to 2pm. Your support will be appreciated.

Support group for people affected by a diagnosis of cancer

Knock Counselling Centre will be hosting a five-week course aimed at promoting self-care and emotional wellbeing for people affected by cancer. The programme will be facilitated by Mary McDermott, cancer survivor and psychotherapist at the centre. Dates: five consecutive Tuesday evenings, 6pm to 7.30pm, commencing May 31. Price: €50. Women of the Well

The Women of the Well is just one of many events currently taking place as a part of a Spring/Summer Faith Renewal series at Knock Shrine. This popular programme explores various aspects of women’s spirituality, helping women to understand how Scripture speaks to them and inspires their lives of faith. This retreat will take place in the Prayer Guidance Centre at Knock Shrine and costs €60, including lunch. Registration is at 7.30pm on Friday April 15. Beekeeping beginners' course

A beginners' course will take place in the Teagasc centre on the Newport road, Westport, over the weekend of Saturday April 16 and Sunday April 17. For information ring Dermot on (087 ) 2464045.

Terrified by technology?

Don’t be afraid! Age Action is here to help. Age Action runs beginner/refresher computer classes (iPad/tablet/smartphones also ) for older people (55+ ) who have little or no computer experience or who are terrified of technology. Participants are taught either one to one or in very small groups by trained volunteer tutors. In Mayo classes are run in libraries in Ballina, Castlebar, and Swinford, and also in the Claremorris Family Resource Centre. To book a place call Age Action on (091 ) 527831.

Radio skills course

Claremorris Community Radio will shortly deliver a training programme in radio and presentation skills, at the studios in the Town Hall, which will offer a QQI qualification to those who take part. The course is starting on April 13, and will run every Wednesday for 10 weeks. If you are currently unemployed and in receipt of social welfare payment, it can assist you in applying for a grant to cover the full registration of the course. Topics covered include "What is media expression", "Using a studio", "Programme production" "Social media communication", "Interviewing skills", and "Recording your own show". Balla CRD

Names are currently being taken for for morning yoga to start on April 12, if you are interested call (087 ) 1850860 as soon as possible as only a small group can be accommodated. Knitting and crochet resumes on Wednesday evenings at 7pm.

Castlebar markets

Mayo's biggest fresh food and craft markets takes place every Friday morning at Castlebar Tennis Pavilion from 9am to 2pm. Go along and support Mayo's homebakers and craft makers. For more information call (087 ) 1622177.

Aughalasheen NS goes back on stage

Aughalasheen NS pupils will perform another night of their play The Easter Rising of 1916 in Áras Inis Gluaire on Sunday April 10 at 7pm. Tickets will be available from Áras Inis Gluaire or from the school from April 4 onwards.

Scór na bPaistí

The county final of Scór na bPaistí will be held in Breaffy GAA Centre on Saturday April 16 at 2pm. This promises to be a fantastic final with winners coming through from the four divisional finals held over recent weekends. In the words of one adjudicator "The standard has never been so high", so with that in mind we can look forward in anticipation to a wonderful final.
