There is a treat in store for fans of Star Wars and superheroes next Saturday (July 25 ) in Mayo Leisure Point.

The 501st Ireland Garrison will descend on Mayo Leisure Point on the day as part of a fun fundraiser in aid of St Anthony's Special School, Castlebar.

The garrison is a volunteer organisation which brings Star Wars and other superhero characters to life by attending charity events in full costume.

This is the second time the event has come to Mayo Leisure Point, and last year's day was a huge success with lots of children from all over Mayo getting the opportunity to meet and have their pictures taken with their superhero favourites.

Liz King of King Klix Photography and Owen Quinn of the Time Warriors website will be there to capture all of the magic of the day.

There will be lots of other activities on the day to keep everyone entertained, including face painting and a special puppet show with Sharon Hughes and Geraldine McDonnell of Kids Party Club.

Mayo Leisure Point has reduced the prices for one game of bowling on the day to just €4 and every customer who plays a game of bowling that day will be entered into a draw to win two tickets to Dublin Comic Con on August 9 and an overnight stay for a family of two adults and two children at the Aisling Hotel, Dublin.

The fun family day at Mayo Leisure Point starts at 2pm and continues until 5pm on Saturday July 25.

There is no admission cost but there will be donation buckets on the door and throughout the building on the day.

All funds raised at the event will go towards the new sensory room at St Anthony's, which is a special school catering for primary and post primary pupils who have mild general learning difficulties.

The school aims to provide a caring, learning environment which facilitates the nurturing and development of each pupil's full educational potential.

Sponsors and supports of the fun family day include:  Breaffy House Hotel & Spa Resort, Kids Party Club, 501st Ireland Garrison, Anyparty.ie, Sharon Hughes, Atlantis Ireland, RS Marine Power Sports, The Wellness Room, King Klix Photography, Time Warriors Website, The Irish House, Castlebar Car Valeting and Daves Garage.
