Crossmolina NS wins national ‘green’ award

The active young pupils of Crossmolina National School have won a national award for their efforts to promote more sustainable travel.

The school has been named the Cycling School of the Year after it increased the number of pupils who cycle to school from just three to 96 in three weeks as part of the An Taisce Green Schools Big Travel Challenge.

The pupils collected their award at the recent Big Travel Challenge prize-giving ceremony in the Radisson Hotel, Dublin.

More than 1,500 schools took part in the Big Travel Challenge, which asked pupils and staff to try to bring about real, lasting, change in the travel behaviour at their school.

The school is also being awarded its fourth green flag this month.
