Legendary broadcaster Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh will be in Claremorris today, Friday December 5 to launch Oscail an Doras, a simple and imaginative initiative that gives people the opportunity to use their Irish on a daily basis in shops and businesses in Claremorris. The scheme will commence in 11 businesses in the town on that weekend, including the post office, library, Cúram, CLÁR IRD, Frame Productions, Flynn’s Pharmacy, Green’s, Phillips’ Menswear, McWilliam Park Hotel, Warde’s Bar, and Townley Medical Practice.
Customers will be able to easily identify who is capable of doing business in Irish thanks to posters and other material which will be on display at each location. Claremorris has been chosen for the pilot scheme which will be rolled out to Castlebar, Ballina, and Westport in 2015. A number of other businesses in Claremorris are planning to join in 2015. The project is being organised by Togra Mhaigh Eo (Conradh na Gaeilge ) in association with Gnó Mhaigh Eo, the Irish language business support group, and supported by Claremorris Chamber. The launch event will take place in the McWilliam Park Hotel commencing at 7.30pm on Friday December 5 and all are welcome.
