Second chance for fisherman who had ecstasy tablets

A 37-year-old Slovakian who was found in possession of ecstasy tablets pleaded guilty at Belmullet District Court this week.

Garda Amanda Cunningham outlined that a search warrant was obtained on June 11 last year to search the home of Stefan Burack, 6 Sea View Apartments, Belmullet, with the warrant being executed on June 13.

Four ecstasy tablets were discovered in a jacket. The defendant was not present but his mother confirmed to gardaí that it was Burack’s jacket. The following day Burack went to the Garda Station where he admitted the drugs were for his own use.

The single man who has been living in Ireland for five years and works as a seasonal fisherman and has no previous convictions, was given “one chance” by Judge Mary Devins. A €200 contribution to the special class in Glencastle school was directed to be paid.
