County council announces new writer in residence

Celebrated actor, writer, and lecturer, Diarmuid de Faoite has been announced as the Mayo County Council Writer in Residence for 2014.

Mr de Faoite has won numerous awards for his writing and acting, including the Swewart Parker Trust/BBC NI Best Script Award for his stage play Pádraic Ó Conaire and the Celtic Media Festival Best Feature Documentary Award for the drama documentary Pádraic Ó Conaire - an Fear. He also won the Irish Language Media Best Actor Award for his role in Corp+Anam.

Mr de Faoite will be running two ‘writing snack workshops’ in Ballinrobe Library on Thursday May 22, from 11am to 2pm, and in Swinford Library on Friday May 30, from 11am to 2pm.

The snack workshops are 10 minute, one-to-one, sessions for individual writers.

The sessions are open to writers across all genres and are free of charge but should be booked in advance.

Mr de Faoite will also be giving a free, bi-lingual, public reading of his poetry and short stories in Ballina Library on Wednesday June 4, at 7pm.
