Barrett wants bridge assessed for safety

Labour Party Castlebar town councillor Harry Barrett has written to area engineers to assess the safety of the bridge leading to Parke village. Barrett maintains that the issue was a cause of concern raised by the community, on a recent canvass of the village.

Cllr Barrett said: "I've been asked by the community to have this bridge examined and assessed for structural damage. I am aware that it has been hit by a number of vehicles in recent years, and as a result visible cracks have appeared. The bridge also leans in on one side and will eventually collapse on to the road way if not remedied. I will bring the community concern to the area office, and will maintain pressure on Mayo County Council to address the safety of the current condition of the bridge and then to begin repairs.”
