Easter party for aware

A family Easter party and craft fair will take place this Easter Sunday April 20 in the Breaffy Events Arena, Castlebar. There will be an Easter egg hunt, bouncy castles, children's activities, pet farm, there will also be a craft and food fair. Admission is €6 for children and adults are free, for further information call 087 2890533.

Gala seafood fundraiser

A gala seafood night will be co-hosted by the Castlebar Lions Club and Castlebar Rugby Football Club in aid of much needed funds for the Castlebar RFC Underage Rugby Development Fund, the night will take place on Friday April 4 in the Welcome Inn Hotel with music on the night by Ice on Fire. Tickets on sale from Lions clubs members and Rugby Club members, alternatively contact Paddy on 087 2381072.

Claremorris FRC AGM

Claremorris Family Resource Centre will hold its AGM on Wednesday April 16 at 7.30pm at its new premises in Mount Street, Claremorris. All are welcome.

25 Card drive

Geesala NS is holding a 25 Card Drive game (partners ) in The High Chapparal, Geesala, on Friday April 4 at 8.30pm. Prize fund of €600 on the night. A raffle will take place on the night with spot prizes galore. Tickets are €10 and are available in the school, Coyles Service Station, Brogans Bangor-Erris, Munnelly’s Geesala, and Geesala PO, and can also be purchased on the door on the night.

Claremorris scribblers

The Claremorris scribblers creative writing group meet every Friday in the Claremorris Family Resource Centre on Mount Street, Claremorris,  from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Aware depression support group

Are you feeling anxious/depressed? Aware holds a weekly support group meeting in the Community Centre, Teeling Sreet, Ballina, each Monday at 8pm. This group is free of charge and provides a safe space for people experiencing depression/anxiety and related mood disorders to get together to learn coping skills in a supportive environment. Beekeeping beginners course

A beginners course will take place in the Teagasc centre on the Newport Road, Westport, over the weekend April 12 and 13. Gerry and Mary Ryan of Tipperary are giving the course. For information please ring 087 2464045.

Grants date

South West Mayo Development Company (SWMDC ) invites applications from community groups working in the SW Mayo area for once-off funding under the Local and Community Development Programme Grants will be awarded between €200 and €600 and will be made available for information events, eg, newsletters, information sessions, seminars, etc. Events must prioritise disadvantaged groups.  All applicants are encouraged to contact Maria McHale in SWMDC before submitting an application or to drop into a grant clinic between 4pm and 7pm on following dates: Thursday, April 10, Cúram Claremorris; Monday, April 14. Castlebar Trialogue Meeting

Trialogue is an open forum for discussion on mental health issues. Users of the mental health services, carers, health care professionals, their friends, and everyone in the community are welcome. A ‘Trialogue’ group is a neutral space where communities can gather to develop their understanding of mental health issues, the challenges of maintaining mental health, and to transform thinking on developing better services and healthy communities. The group meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7pm in GMIT Castlebar, room P105. The next meeting is on Tuesday April 8 and the topic is motivation. The May meeting is on Tuesday May 13 and is about relaxation. The June meeting is on Tuesday June 10 and the topic is developing a positive identity. Swinford AC Spring Series

Swinford Athletic Club Spring series, sponsored by O’Connell’s Pharmacy, continues each Wednesday at 7.15pm.  Week two of the series will go to the line on Wednesday  April 9 and will be in Straide. This will be a 5k walk, jog, or run in aid of Cancer Care West. Entry fee for non-members is €5, members €2, and children are free.

Belcarra Easter egg hunt and cake sale

A cake sale and Easter egg hunt, will take place on Sunday April 20 at 10.30am in Belcarra Community Centre. All proceeds will go to Baby Ella fund, Belcarra Foroige, and Irish pilgrimage fund. Courses for everyone in Belmullet

Are you aged between 13 to 18? Interested in theatre/acting  or drama?

Why not join the new and exciting Erris Youth Theatre/Amharclann Iorras Na Nóg. You will have an opportunity to work with  and be directed by Áras Inis Gluaire’s artistic director, Brendan Murray, who has written and directed for Fibin, Taibhdhearc, TG4, and many more.

Every Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm for beginners and from 8pm to 9pm for advance, music classes for guitar, accordion, keyboard, tin whistle, and fiddle will take place in Áras Inis Gluaire. On Tuesdays at 3.30pm the Redmond School of Irish Dance provides classes for children of all age groups. Mayo Cancer Support AGM

Mayo Cancer Support Group at Rock Rose House, Castlebar, invite all their friends and supporters to the annual general meeting to be held  on Tuesday, April 15, in the Travellers Friend Hotel, Castlebar at 7.30pm, and you are asked to bring a friend, all are welcome to hear the good news of their success of fighting cancer in Mayo. The Mayo Cancer Support Group has had a great year working from Rock Rose House, adjacent to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar. The meeting will have reports of the many support groups at Rock Rose House and the great benefits achieved from the Mayo Cancer Support fundraising drives. This AGM gathering will be a meeting of friends fighting cancer and have a share of the light refreshments served.  

Cancer support in Ballina

Mayo Cancer Support Association is expanding its service in Ballina and is now open in Ballina Family Resource centre every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 4pm. Confidential drop-in listening service, counselling, and therapies are available.  All services are free to people with cancer, their families, and friends. For more information call 096-75573.

Job ready programme

Claremorris Family Resource Centre in partnership with South West Mayo Development Company and Department of Social and Protection invites eligible applicants to participate in free part-time training commencing in May 2014.  Programme content FETAC Level 3 restaurant and bar skills training, CV compilation, cover letters, interview prep, IT training, and personal development.
