Ballina band wins top prize in national competition

Ballina music group Flat Out took home a cheque for €8,000 last weekend after they won a national contest to find Ireland's best cover version song.

The group was on stage in the Sugar Club for the final of the Le Crunch Apple of My Eye competition.

Their performance of Foster the People's 'Pumped Up Kicks' won them the top prize.

Almost 1,000 entries poured in from around the country for the competition, ran by apple brand Le Crunch on Today FM's KC Show.

Competition judge Clare Coleman from Le Crunch, who was joined on the judging panel by Royseven’s Paul Walsh and Roisin O, said they were “pleasantly surprised by the amazing quality of the entries”.

“It was a very difficult task to pick a winner from the five finalists, as they all played their hearts out and gave it their best.

“On behalf of Le Crunch, the judges and Today FM, I’d like to congratulate Flat Out and wish them all the best for the future. Hopefully it’s a name that we will hear lots about in years to come.”
