No enterprise ready building in Castlebar

Kiltimagh could have a company with a 150 strong workforce set up in the morning, thanks to having a state-of-the art enterprise ready office building with fibre broadband, something that is not available in Castlebar. That is something that the county town needs if it is to be serious about attracting new businesses, the members of Castlebar Town Council were told last week.

As part of his presentation on job creation, Tom Canavan (Castlebar Chamber ) pointed out to the members that Castlebar is the only town of its size in the country that doesn’t have a metropolitan area network (MAN ) and that high-speed broadband, along with improved roads and electricity connections, were vital to attracting business.

He also pointed to the east Mayo town of Kiltimagh as a “shining example” by having a state of the art enterprise ready building that is capable of taking 150 people in the morning, something he said that Castlebar is not capable of doing.

Canavan also told the councillors that there needs to be major investment and improvements put into the industrial estates around the town which weren’t up to standard and were often populated with roads that weren’t marked or sign posted. He said that there is no point in getting agencies to bring potential investors down if the places they were being shown weren’t up to scratch.
