Three more competitions this weekend for Mayo boxe

Following last weekend’s three events held by Ardagh/Crossmolina BC, Geesala BC, and Charlestown BC, the action moves to Swinford tonight, Friday January 24, in the Conway Fitness Centre at 8pm. Then to the Wyatt Hotel Westport for the Eagle BC tournament tomorrow at 8pm and the weekend’s action will wrap up with the sixth annual Vincy James Memorial tournament in Foxford Sports and Leisure Centre this Sunday, January 26 at 3pm.

In last weekend’s Aradagh/Crossomolina tournament in the Hineys, Crossomlina’s three time national champion Matthew Davis was the winner of the best boxer of the night. He defeated Ballinacarrow’s Arron Gethins in a youth one 60kg contest in one of a 14 bout card on the night, where the home club picked up a number of wins including Conor Cadden in the boy two 50kg, Eoin O’Donnell in the boy three 36kg, Patrick Gallagher in the boy four 54kg, Darren Cadden in the youth one 54kg, and Dean Loftus in the youth two 46kg.

The Geesala tournament was staged in the High Chaparral last Saturday night. The best contest of the night went to the female bout between Aoibhe Carrabine and Erin Henneghan in the girl two 48kg level. Geesala boxers won a respectable 10 out of the 15 contests on the programME. Dan Murphy, Tara Doocey, Angela Costello Oisin Lally, Mikey Conroy, Padraic McDonagh and Matthew McDonagh all picked up wins on the night for the home club.

The Charlestown tournament was held in the CBD Complex last Sunday January 19. The award for the best home boxer of the tournament went to Martin Ward, and Padraig Conway of Frenchpark received the best away boxer award. There were wins on the day for Jason Butler, Molly Beirne, Liam Groarke, Thomas Donohue, Seamus Doherty, Stephen Maughan, Ben Conway, Michal Kolasinki, Chloe Moore, Padraig Conway, Alan Brennan, Eoin Beirne, Jason Maughan, Martin Ward, Jamie Butler, and Jason Sweeney.
