Almost 600 Eircom customers in Mayo are without service

Faults could take five to six days to repair

Almost 600 Eircom customers are without service and it may take five to six days to fix the faults causing the outages, said the company this afternoon.

The number of people without Eircom services could rise as the volume of reported faults continues to increase.

The faults and service outages are due to the unprecedented level of sustained severe weather during the past three weeks.

“Specifically, damage in the region has been caused by hurricane force high winds, lightning storms and flooding,” said an Eircom statement.

“Customers are encouraged to report faults as soon as possible.

“Due to exceptionally high fault volumes in Mayo it could to be five to six days before all existing faults across the county are repaired. In some parts of Galway and Mayo, a minority of customers could face outages of up to two weeks.”

Nationally, Eircom restored service to more than 17,000 customers in the past fortnight but sustained stormy weather and flooding has seen 22,000 new faults in the same period.

Some 700 repair crews are working around the country to repair the faults.

Customers can log faults on the 'Log a Fault' section of the Eircom website ( ) or through our automated customer service line 1901.

Faults can be reported to either service 24 hours a day, seven days week.
