Mayo charities get ready for National Giving Week

National Giving Week (November 11 to 17 ) is an initiative of the Forum on Philanthropy and Fundraising which is being delivered by Philanthropy Ireland.

Speaking about the launch of National Giving Week Seamus Mulconry, CEO of Philanthropy Ireland, said: “The not for profit sector and charities in Mayo deliver a host of services from medical research to search and rescue. Their efforts and the efforts of countless volunteers play a vital role in not only social services but our sporting and cultural life. They provide the heartbeat of community life in Mayo. Charities and not-for-profits are under pressure and Government income is down while the demands on their services have risen dramatically.

“National Giving Week aims to create a debate about giving in Ireland and the role of the not-for-profit sector in Irish life. The Irish people are generous and if they are made aware of the need they will respond very generously. Also we all need to understand that giving and volunteering benefits everyone. People who give to good causes and volunteer are happier, healthier, and more engaged with their communites. Everyone benefits.”
