Easter weekend was packed full of good golf around Mayo

Balla

In last weekend’s stableford competition Tim Evans was the winner of the gents’ section with a score of 41pts. PJ Brett finished in second place on 36pts with Stephen Minogue in third place. The ladies’ competition was won by Louise McMahon on 39pts, with Breege Moran in second place and Pat Dillon in third.

Ballina

Sean Sweeney was the winner of the gents’ competition held over the Easter weekend with a score of 43pts. Ollie Bolton finished in second place, with Ciaran Allen in third, and fourth place going to John Bourke. Starting today, Friday April 5 the club will be holding a weekly singles competition on Fridays.

Belmullet

There were a number of competitions over the Easter weekend with Dara Jennings winning the gents’ Friday competition. The Saturday open singles event was claimed by Ryan Jennings, with the duo of Tony O’Toole and Justin Keady taking the win in the four ball better ball competition played over last Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday. The ladies’ Easter Sunday competition was won by Geraldine Ryan with Eileen Conlisk finishing in second place.

Castlebar

The annual club Easter Am Am competition, played over Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the Easter weekend was won by the foursome of Ian Brennan, Tom Moylette, John McHale, and Frank Murray with a score of 103pts. The longest drive over the competition was claimed by Ray Prendergast, with Joey McDonnell winning the Pot O’Gold section for his excellent tee shot on the par three 16th hole.

The ladies’ Wednesday competition teed off recently with a 13 hole stableford event. The winner of the first of this year’s competitions was Roweena Kilkelly on 31pts, with Martina Kelly in second place and Kay Stewart in third place.

Claremorris

McHugh’s Spar in Ballindine sponsored the competitions over Easter weekend in the south Mayo club. Ger Noone was the winner in the gents’ section in the Friday and Saturday competition with a score of 40pts, David Rattigan finished in second place with Barry O’Donovan winning the category prize. The Sunday and Monday event was won by Kieran Canavan on 37pts, with Frank Mullen finishing in second place and Sean McGuinness picking up the category competition. The ladies’ 18 hole competition was won by Nuala Moran, with Mary Walsh taking the ladies’ nine hole event. The Captain’s Drive In for the new season will take place this Sunday, April 7 at 6pm.

Westport

Kevin Moylette emerged victorious in the Easter Sunday stableford competition with a score of 44pts, he finished in front of Norman Heuston in second place, Noel O’Malley in third, and Mick Higgins in fourth. The Saturday stableford was won by Oisin Mahon on 41pts, with Eoin Donohue taking second and Harry Gillivan finishing in third.

All members wishing to take part in club match-play competitions are advised that entry forms are now available for collection in the Pro Shop. The Jim Lyons Memorial competition will be played this coming weekend (April 6 and 7 ) and members are advised that the format will be a fourball better ball event.
