Rice takes home Castlebar honours

Balla

Last weekend’s stableford competition saw Oliver Moran taking home the first place prize on 35pts, Jim Rodgers came home in second place one point further back, with Chris Mannion coming home in third place. The ladies’ competition was won by Margaret Walsh on 35pts, Geraldine Evans finished in second place and Marie Flanagan took third place.

After 10 rounds of the Winter League, Jimmy Sheridan and Breege Moran lead the way with 492pts. Chris Mannion and Tim Evans are in second place on 482pts, with John Parsons and Carmel Henry in third place on 472pts.

Ballina

The third round of the Spring League was won by the team of Jonathan Doherty, John Forde, Pauline Gilger Tuohy and Dennis Bourke on a score of 53.4. The final of the league and the Plate will take place on Sunday, February 24 at 9am with a shotgun start. An information night for members on relevant club issues, including the new driving range, will be held on Thursday February 28 at 8pm.

Castlebar

In last weekend’s 16 hole club competition, Padraig Rice was the winner with a score of 41pts. James Rocke finished up in second place only one point further back, with Martin Moylan and Roger Towey tieing on 39pts, and Moylan taking third spot on countback. The ladies’ 13 hole competition was won by Maeve Nevin with a score of 30pts. Sheila Baynes finished in second place on 26pts with Dolores Towey finishing in third place.

This weekend coming will be round eight of the Winter League, the grand final of the league will take place on Sunday, March 10.

Round six of the Ladies Spring League was played last weekend and Team P of Derval Molloy, Maeve Nevin, Nancy Rowland, Anne O’Sullivan and Ann Melvin were the winners of round six. However out in front after the six rounds are Team F made up of Sheila Baynes, Ann Gallagher, Pauline O’Donoghue, Mary Lawlor and Rita Moran. The top six finishing teams will play off in grand final in March .

Claremorris

Round three of the Spring League was played last weekend and Tomas Mannion was the winner with a score of 36pts. Pat Hession finished two points further back in second place with Pat Coyne coming home in third spot. The ladies’ competition was won by Christina Rush on 31pts. The early leader in the team competition is the Tuam Killererin Galway City team, closely followed by the Balla High Road and Miltown teams.

Mulranny

King of the Links Society golfers from Achill swept the boards at the latest Mulranny open weekend. An impressive 43pts was recorded by, Michael Scanlon to claim first prize. Fellow islanders, Michael T English and John Gallagher were second and third with 39pts and 38pts respectively. The regular season will commence on Saturday/ Sunday March 2 and 3 with a foursomes competition. The Captains’ Drive In will take place on Saturday, March 9.

Swinford

The ladies’ Spring League is well in progress with three rounds played to date. With both the weather and the ground conditions improving so has the scoring. The most recent round saw Dympna O’Donnell coming home in first place on 24pts with Carmel Timoney finishing up in second place. The first round of the men’s league saw Eamon Ring take home the first place honours with John Biesty finishing in second place. In the ladies’ competition Margaret Sweeney was the winner on 23pts with Julie Loftus in second place on 20pts.

Westport

Tom Lyons playing off a handicap of 17 was the winner of last weekend’s 15 hole competition on 40pts, Joe Hastings finished in second place on 36pts.
