Mayo Youth Orchestra took take centre stage in Dublin

Members of Mayo Youth Orchestra are on the road to Dublin tomorrow, Saturday February 9, to play at the 18th Festival of Youth Orchestras at the National Concert Hall. This special festival has been honoured by inclusion in the Official Cultural Programme for the Irish presidency of the Council of the EU. Minster of State for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton, will be guest of honour during the afternoon performances at the festival and Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald, will present the Achievement Award for 2013.

The Mayo Youth Orchestra will join seven other orchestras with some 500 other young musicians from around Ireland, and abroad, who will perform a variety of original works and arrangements for orchestra.

Mayo Youth Orchestra was founded as a junior element of the Mayo Concert Orchestra and has 37 members, from all over the county and is based in Castlebar. Tickets cost from €7.50 to €15 from the NCH box office: 01 417 0000 www.nch.ie
