New policing arrangements as six Garda stations are to close

Due to the closing of six Garda stations in Mayo at the end of the month there will be new policing changes imposed from January 30. The six stations to close in Mayo as approved by the Minister for Justice and Equality are: Blacksod, Ballycastle, Ballyglass, Ballyvary, Hollymount and Lahardane.

The new implementations will see the currently vacant Blacksod Garda Station being incorporated into the Belmullet Garda sub-district (097 81910 ) which currently provides a 24-hour policing service to the Blacksod area.

In the instance of Ballycastle, Garda Bryan Maguire will transfer to Killala Garda Station (096 32111 ). Both Garda McGuire and Garda Michael McGrath will provide a policing service to the community in Killala and Ballycastle areas. They will be supported by the gardaí in Ballina (096 20560 ) who will continue to provide a 24-hour policing service to the Ballycastle and Killala areas.

Ballyglass Garda Station, which is currently vacant, will be incorporated into the Partry Garda sub-district (094 954 3002 ). Sergeant Sean Cunnane, Garda Jim Daly, and Garda Tom Fleming will be assigned to the new sub-district and they will be supported by the gardaí in Castlebar (094 903 8200 ) who will continue to provide a 24-hour policing service to the Ballyglass, Partry, and Tourmakeady areas.

The Ballyvary sub-district will be incorporated into the Castlebar Garda sub-district (094 903 8200 ) which currently provides a 24-hour policing service to the Ballyvary area.

The Hollymount sub-district will be incorporated into the Claremorris sub-district (094 937 2080 ) which will provide a 24-hour policing service to the community in the Hollymount area.

In respect of Lahardane, Garda Christy Kilbane will transfer to Crossmolina Garda Station (096 31371 ). Sergeant James Murphy, Garda Christy Kilbane, Garda Pat Garvey, Garda Adrian Kearns, and Garda Fiona Reilly will provide a policing service to the community in Lahardane and Crossmolina and they will be supported by the gardaí in Ballina (096 20560 ) who will continue to provide a 24-hour policing service to the Lahardane and Crossmolina areas.
