The Sound of Music at Ballinrobe Community School

The students of Ballinrobe Community School are busily preparing for their annual school musical. This year the Transition Year students ably assisted by the second year choir are staging that timeless musical The Sound of Music. The story of Maria and the Von Trapp family is told through songs such as “My Favourite Things”, “Do – Re – Mi” and “Edelweiss”, just to mention a few.

There is a long tradition of musicals in Ballinrobe Community School with students getting the opportunity to tap into hidden talents. Very high value is placed on this extra curricular activity. The students love the opportunity to sing, dance and act and they will freely admit that it is one of the highlights of their school year.

The Sound of Music has a high reputation to live up to. Last year’s show, The Wiz, swept the boards at the annual Musical Awards in NUIG, winning best actress, best singer and best show awards. This year’s students have the same high aspirations and are confidently claiming that The Sound of Music will be “the best yet”.

The show will be staged in the school auditorium on Thursday and Friday December 11 and 12 at 8pm and Saturday December 13 at 8.30pm.
