Clare Island mourns death of local fisherman

The Clare Island fisherman who drowned this week while out checking lobster pots is to be buried today (Friday ).

Martin Burns (51 ) from Gurteen, Clare Island, failed to return home on Tuesday evening when he went out in his currach.

His body was recovered from the sea following a two-hour search by the Achill lifeboat.

A postmortem examination was carried out on Wednesday at Mayo General Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Nora and his three children.
