The Annual General Meeting of Mayo AC will be held this Sunday, January 8, in the Balla Community Centre at 6pm. Mayo AC hopes that there will be a full attendance at the AGM where a number of key items will be discussed. These include a review of 2011 and plans for 2012 which will be the 25th anniversary of the club. The club hope all items will be dealt with by 7.30pm and refreshments will be served afterwards. A draw for free membership for the year will be held for all club members who attend.

On New Year’s morning there were some wicked sleet showers and a biting breeze to greet anyone out for their first run of 2012. Even so, it is always good to get a few early miles on the calendar. A few members of Mayo AC took the opportunity to open their race accounts at the Resolution 5k, run over two laps around Renmore. More than 200 runners took to the line for the 1.12 start time. Matt Bidwell (GCH ) was first home in 16.34. The first Mayo AC runner home was TJ McHugh who finished ninth in 17.31, followed by Anto Devanney tenth in 17.44.

Catherine Conway was also returning to racing and she finished a very good second 18.44 behind women’s race winner Laura Shaughnessy (Loughrea AC ) 18.27. Anne Lennon was fourth and first f40 in 20.07. Claremorris Fit4Lifer Colm Cleary is now a regular at the races and he did well again with a 21.52 finish. Jim Donnelly and Sean Dooner also had a good run.
