A fundraising event will take place in the Le Chéile Family Resource Centre, Tucker Street, Castlebar, on Saturday December 3 from 3pm to 5pm. It will be held by the Karen Community Castlebar to raise money for Ban Don Yang Refugee Camp in Thailand.
The Karen residents in Mayo came from Ban Don Yang. Most had spent between 10 and 15 years living in refugee camps before arriving in Ireland at the end of 2007. The fundraising event is to raise money for the two schools that they attended while living in the camps, Ban Don Yang High School and Ban Don Yang Poc School.
As little as €4 a month will educate a child and provide supplies, and as little as €25 a month will fund a teacher in the school. Both schools rely on support to keep them going.
The fundraising event on Saturday December 3 at 3pm will be a fun day, with music from the Karen Community, a cake sale, a raffle, face painting, and more.
Please come along and offer your support or contact Mairead on 087 410 0565. All money raised will go directly to the projects.
