Tell a story for national Tell Tale Day

If you think you have the gift of the gab, tomorrow (Saturday ) is National Tell Tale Day and across Ireland the old Irish tradition of storytelling will be celebrated with storytelling themed events for children and adults as National Heritage Week kicks off.

Tales Of Wildlife will be held at the Ballycroy National Park Visitor Centre tomorrow from 2pm to 3pm, or learn about the legendary pirate queen Grainne Mhaol when the story of Grace O'Malley will be told from 12 noon to 5pm at Westport House and Pirate Adventure Park.

As well as attending events on Saturday you can also play your part in bringing back to life the tradition of storytelling by entering the National Heritage Week Tell Tale Storytelling Competition. Simply record an audio or video file of your tale or memory about your favourite place (fact or fiction ), favourite folk tale, or fictional story about Irish/European heritage and send it to [email protected]. Stories can be recorded on your smart phone or camera.
