Two Westport pubs win Licensing World awards

It was celebrations all round for the staff of Uncle Sam’s Bar at the Mill Times Hotel and The Porter House, Bridge Street, Westport who both picked up awards in the 2011 Licensing World Bar Awards. Joe O’Malley is the proud owner of both pubs. The awards were presented at a glittering black tie event attended by over 300 members of the Irish pub and licensed trade in the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel, Dublin.

Uncle Sam’s Café Bar won their award for Best Hotel Bar, alongside the celebrated Vintage Crop Bar in The K Club, Co Kildare. The Porter House received their award in the Best Music Pub category.

The Licensing World Bar Awards follow a strict judging process. All premises were visited by an expert panel during April and May. Each entry is assessed on a lengthy series of relevant criteria including welcome, customer service, ambience, staff training, hygiene, décor, product range and customer appeal.
