Fines for man who didn’t pay for parking

A 27-year-old man who didn’t pay for parking as he popped into his family’s pub, was convicted and fined at Castlebar District Court this week.

Lorcan Cribbin, traffic warden in Castlebar said that the car of Michael McDonagh, 53 The Brambles, Pontoon Road, Castlebar was parked on October 11 2010 and November 13 2010 on Tucker Street without valid parking discs displayed. On both occasions the traffic warden issued parking tickets, however they were not paid.

The defendant told the court that on both occasions he just called into his parents’ pub for a short time.

Judge Mary Devins said that this was “an expensive shooting in and out of a family business” and the judge convicted and fined him a total of €300 plus total costs of €150.
