Public meeting to discuss proposed new Castlebar music festival

A public meeting will take place next Tuesday, June 28, in Bar Ritz, Main Street, Castlebar, at 8pm about the prospect of replacing the Blues Festival with a new music festival in Castlebar.

The Castlebar Blues Festival committee have recognised that the current Blues Festival has not been working to its full potential for the past number of years and they are anxious to make a decision on a new festival for 2012.

Committee members Finbar Hoban, Declan Durkan, Gerry Tolster and Webster McNeely have called this meeting and are inviting the public to attend and air their opinions.

The following are a list of proposed topics the committee would like to raise on the night among other things: sponsorship deals, moving the festival to the October Bank Holiday weekend when there is less competition on the festival market in the west of Ireland, a new festival for all to enjoy with a new name and dropping the "Blues" tag from the festival altogether, and having more street events over the weekend, not just live music. The committee would like to see support from local publican landlords, and businesses in the Castlebar area. All are welcome.
