The World Fleadh comes back to Castlebar this August

Castlebar has been confirmed to host The World Fleadh 2011 with preparations well under way for a great weekend of music and craic both in venues within Castlebar and outdoor street entertainment. The festival committee has worked hard over the last couple of months to secure Castlebar as the host town with The Royal Theatre Castlebar as the venue for the headlining acts of the weekend. Set to play the Main Stage in The Royal Theatre is Dervish with special guest Andy Irvine on Friday August 26, Tommy Fleming on Saturday night August 27, and Clannad on Sunday August 28.

The weekend will be full of entertainment with a town trad trail featuring in bars down the main street in Castlebar. There will be street entertainment on Saturday with stands, pop up shops, food stalls and markets, and street entertainers with live music in The Mall. The festivities in Castlebar town over the full weekend are anticipated to bring over 5000 people to the town.

Pat Jennings, managing director of the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, said he is looking forward to hosting the festival this year. “This is a great opportunity for Castlebar to be chosen to host The World Fleadh and with our long standing history and love for Irish traditional music; we feel that the event is well matched here in the west of Ireland.”

There will be late night entertainment every night over the weekend and great overnight packages are now available for this year’s festival. For more information check out the festival website www.theworldfleadh.com or www.theroyal.ie for updates and ticket information.
