Prosecutions and sanctions to be taken against Castlebar bouncers

The Private Security Authority (PSA ) has commenced legal proceedings against unlicensed individuals providing door supervisor services at licensed premises in Castlebar.

An inspection was carried out by the PSA in conjunction with the Revenue Commissioners in the county town on May 14. Fifteen per cent of individuals providing door supervision services on that night were found to be unlicensed, while 27 per cent were not wearing a clearly visible identity badge as legally required. Sanctions will be taken against those who were not wearing their ID.

The purpose of the inspections was to ensure that only people licensed by the PSA were operating and that individuals were wearing a clearly visible ID badge.

In total there are 657 individuals in Mayo licensed to provide security services; 202 are licensed to provide door supervision, 355 are licensed to provide security guarding, and a further 100 individuals are licensed to work in both sectors.
