Work on potholes needs to be done faster

Westport councillor John O’Malley has asked that work on potholes in the Westport Electoral Area be sped up as otherwise it will be “July or August” before council workers get around to the “terrible” roads.

“In my own area the roads are brutal,” the Fine Gael councillor said. Cllr O’Malley said that he has people ringing him up to ask if they can send bills to Mayo County Council for burst tyres from the potholes on the roads.

Senior executive engineer Padraig Walsh said there are three patchers working in the area and workers are dealing with the problem as “quickly as possible”, however, work has been hampered by the recent wet weather.
