Men involved in fracas outside Castlebar pub

Two men who were in an altercation outside a Castlebar pub were before the district court on Wednesday.

On January 14 2011 at 1.05am, Garda John Paul Dunning attended a disturbance at the entrance to Cox’s, Castlebar where Charlie McDonagh, 55 Cois Abhainn, Turlough Road, Castlebar was observed to be in a struggle with the door man. McDonagh told the garda to “f**k off” and to “go f**k yourself”.

As Gda Dunning spoke to McDonagh, his brother Martin McDonagh, 12 Lawn Park, Castlebar tried to shove past in order to attempt to tackle security staff. Garda Peter Clancy directed that Martin McDonagh desist, however he refused and was arrested.

According to solicitor Aidan Crowley, the men became involved with the fracas as their uncle had been involved in an incident with the doorman that night.

Charlie McDonagh (28 ), who is a married father of four, has previous convictions. Martin McDonagh, a 24-year-old married father of two has 11 previous convictions. Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Charlie McDonagh €100 and Martin McDonagh €200.
