O’Mahony disappointed that N26 not included in road funding

Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has welcomed the near €19 million allocation from the National Roads Authority to Mayo County Council for the 2011 road and footpath programme but has expressed his disappointment at the absence of any major projects on the programme.

“I accept, and warmly welcome, the fact that the allocation is an increase on what we had last year but it’s hard not to be disappointed because there is no major project included. There is still no further development on the N26 and that will be a source of major disappointment to many people in Mayo,” he said.

“This must remain a priority if the full potential of Ballina and the north Mayo region is to be realised. The signal sent out by this latest programme clearly illustrates that our present government have yet again reneged on their promises.”
