Two year disqualification for driving miniature motorbike

A 20-year-old man who was observed to drive a miniature motorbike around the Ballina Mart, without wearing a crash helmet or without having insurance, was disqualified from driving for two years by Judge Aeneas McCarthy.

Ballina District Court heard on Tuesday that gardaí were made aware on July 2 at 7pm, that two males were on a bike in the Ballina Mart area without helmets. Gardaí went to the scene where they observed Daryl Devers, 51 St Patrick’s Estate, Ballina, on the bike with no helmet.

When Devers saw the gardaí he drove behind a truck, where he lost control of the bike and then fled the scene on foot. Gardaí caught up with him where he admitted that he was driving.

The unemployed man was convicted and fined €300 for not having insurance and disqualified from driving for two years. For not having a crash helmet he was convicted and fined €100.
