Woman drove after drinking wine with sister

A woman who drove her car after she consumed wine with her sister was disqualified from driving for three years at Ballina District Court this week.

Rachel O’Brien, 9 Rehins Fort, Rathglass, Ballina was stopped driving by gardaí at Rehins, Foxford Road on July 17 at 4.25am. O’Brien was arrested for drink driving and a breath sample showed 84mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, told the court that she stopped drinking at midnight and drove as she thought she was “OK to drive”.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined the part-time hotel worker €750 and disqualified her from driving for three years.
