Conviction for Castlebar transport company

An employer of a Castlebar transport company who failed to organise his employees’ work conditions to adhere to regulations was convicted and fined €500 at Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.

A Road Safety Authority inspector and members of the gardaí stopped a truck owned by Brian Cunningham Transport Limited, 33 Fortlands, Moneen, Castlebar, in Kildare in August 2009. The tachograph was inspected which showed that the driver had not been given sufficient rest periods for two dates in that month.

The company, which employs 27 people and runs 16 vehicles, has no previous convictions of this nature. The court heard that a different working management system is now in place.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined the company €500.
