Ten year disqualification for Castlebar woman

A woman who suffers from chronic alcoholism was disqualified from driving at Castlebar District Court this week after being convicted of drink driving, driving while disqualified, and for not having insurance.

On July 3 2009, Garda John Fleming stopped Margaret O’Brien, 40 Springfield, Castlebar, driving at the Mall at 3.45pm, after he noticed her erratic driving. A breath sample was provided which showed 99mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

O’Brien had been disqualified in February of that year for six years.

The divorced mother of three, who is under psychiatric care, was convicted and fined a total of €2,500, by Judge Mary Devins and disqualified from driving for a total of 10 years. Judge Devins also imposed a six month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
