Counterfeit €100 notes in circulation

Gardaí have advised members of the public and shop owners to be on the lookout for counterfeit €100 notes.

Gardaí are aware that since March of this year a number of counterfeit €100 notes have been in circulation and presented in retail outlets across the country.

The trend is to purchase a small item with one €100 note and receive approximately €90 in change from the retail outlet.

Gardaí are advising members of the public to check the security features of notes and say that this particular counterfeit does not contain the physical security thread but a printed one instead.

Gardaí are anxious to speak to a man in connection with these incidents. He is described as short in height, of slim build, with black hair, sallow skin, and has been seen on a number of occasions wearing cream/white trousers, and a matching short jacket.

Anyone who comes across these counterfeit €100 notes, or has any information, is asked to contact their local Garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.
