Westport Cathaoirleach to open Polish Book of Condolences

Following the Polish air crash tragedy, which resulted in the death of the Polish president, his wife and 95 other people, the Cathaoirleach of Westport Town Council, Councillor Myles Staunton has asked the town clerk to set up a book of condolences at the offices of Westport Town Council. The Book of Condolences will be forwarded to the Polish Embassy.

“This is a small gesture to the Polish people, particularly the Polish people living in our town in the aftermath of this shocking and tragic news. A few years ago, there were estimated to be up to 800 Polish people living in Westport alone. This number has certainly decreased given the downturn in the economy, but there are still a number of Polish people living in Westport with strong connections to our town. This is a small gesture on behalf of the people of Westport to reach out to the Polish community living in Westport at this difficult time for them,” said Cllr Staunton.
