Cousins stole used batteries from DOE centre

Two cousins who stole used car batteries were before Castlebar District Court this week.

On Sunday April 4 2010 at 1.55pm gardaí observed Michael Ward, 20 Norbury Wood, Tullamore, Offaly, and Jonathan Ward, Bay 2, Circular Road, Rahoon, Galway, in the vicinity of the train station and the adjacent Shaws Commercial DOE Centre. Michael Ward was observed passing used car batteries (from the test centre ) to Jonathan Ward, who was parked in a pick up truck parked in the train station. The value of the batteries taken was €180 and the men admitted that they took them to sell on as scrap.

Both men in are in their twenties, married, and have children. Michael Ward, who has no previous convictions, was convicted and fined €100 by Judge Mary Devins. Jonathan Ward, who has previous convictions, was convicted and fined €500.
