Mayo’s local cancer charity

Mayo Cancer Support Association offers emotional support and practical help to people with cancer, their family, and friends.

All services provided by Mayo Cancer Support Association are free of charge.

The service is based at Rock Rose House, 32 St Patrick’s Avenue, across from Mayo General Hospital.

People with a cancer diagnosis, their family members or significant others can attend the services at any time following diagnosis and during and after treatment. The association is open from 9.30am to 5pm from Monday to Friday.

Services available include a drop in listening service, professional counselling, therapies, stress management, life coaching, and support groups.

The aim is to support the patient and his/her family through the trauma of a cancer diagnosis and to enable the patient to develop coping skills which will benefit him/her in the future.

Workshops in mindfulness, yoga, life after cancer, style and image, and diet and nutrition are offered and these can also be a means of getting support from people who have been or are also on the cancer journey.

Referrals come to the association from Mayo General Hospital, UCHG, and other hospitals. However there is no need for a referral as the drop in service is available at all times.

Last year Mayo Cancer Support had more than 1,500 visits to the service and this is increasing each year.

The staff are trained in counselling skills, therapeutic massage, and reflexology specific to cancer and their training is constantly being updated.

The association has a library of information on all types of cancer, and the booklets which are provided by the Irish Cancer Society are free of charge.
