Kilmaine to get garda replacement according to Mayo deputy

The vacancy at Kilmaine Garda station is to be filled in the near future, Beverley Flynn TD has been informed.

Welcoming the news, Deputy Flynn said that following representations made by her, she has been informed by Superintendent William Keaveney that the vacancy would be filled in the foreseeable future, subject to the availability of resources.

The Kilmaine vacancy arose from the transfer of Garda Mark Crehan on his promotion to the rank of garda sergeant and would have left the village without a Garda presence.

“There has been much concern in the local community that Garda Crehan might not be replaced and that Kilmaine would be left entirely without a Garda presence,” said Dep Flynn.

“I met with the community council and with other concerned residents and assured them of my support,” she said.

“I am glad to have received this positive response and will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the vacancy is filled with the greatest possible speed,” she concluded.
