Blacked out car windows leads to conviction

A man whose car had blacked out windows, a bald tyre, and non conforming number plates was before Belmullet District Court on Wednesday.

On September 10 2009, Garda Olga Treacy at 5.10pm stopped Michael Reilly, Newtown, Clogher, Ballina, as his number plates were in italics, all the car windows were blacked out, and there was a bald tyre on his car.

The defendant was given 10 days to rectify the faults and present the car at the Garda station, however this was not done.

Solicitor Samantha Geraghty said that Reilly did fix the complaints but did not know that he had to produce it at the station. The vehicle has since been sold.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, was convicted and fined a total of €200 by Judge Mary Devins.
