Rapid response emergency Garda unit for Claremorris

A regional rapid response emergency garda unit is to be based at Claremorris Garda Station, according to Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony. The unit will consist of two sergeants and 10 gardaí who are equipped and trained specially to deal with serious crime in the region.

According to Deputy O’Mahony, the announcement of the new unit is imminent. “It’s a great boost for Claremorris to have the administrative wing of such a high profile and effective unit based in the town. This is an important development in the fight against crime in this region,” he said.

This new unit will deal with serious and organised crime which rose dramatically last year, while also providing support to unarmed, frontline, gardaí in dangerous situations.
