Knockmore man spotted driving an off-road bike

A 23-year-old Knockmore man who was observed driving an uninsured, off-road motorbike, with no registration plates, on a public road while not wearing a helmet, was convicted and fined at Ballina District Court on Tuesday.

On October 3 2009 at 3pm Garda Eanna Cuffe observed Kevin Bourke, Ballymacredmond, Corroy, Knockmore, on a Yahama 125cc on the main R310 road outside Knockmore.

Bourke was not wearing a helmet, there were no registration plates on the bike and no insurance. The defendant also failed to produce a driving licence.

Michael Bohan, defending solicitor, said that his client only bought the bike a week before he was detected and was in the process of selling the bike to two men who were in the vicinity when Bourke was stopped by Garda Cuffe.

Bourke, who has previous road traffic convictions and who drives tractors in his seasonal job, was convicted by Judge Mary Devins and fined €250 for having no insurance. The judge also convicted and fined the defendant €50 for having no registration plates, €75 for not producing a driving licence, and €50 for failing to wear a helmet.
