Mayo solicitors’ firm to provide legal services for NAMA

A Swinford and Kiltimagh based Mayo solicitors’ firm has been selected as one of 64 firms to be appointed to a panel for the provision of legal services to the National Assets Management Agency.

P O’Connor and Sons, which has a long and distinguished tradition of providing legal advice and services, and currently employs 22 staff, was this week named by the National Treasury Management Agency as one practice, which alongside some of the largest and best-known legal firms in the State, will provide legal advice for NAMA.

Following a national advertising campaign, legal practices which successfully bid and which met certain stringent criteria were offered the role to review due diligence reports and make recommendations to NAMA based on their review.

The managing partner of the Mayo firm, Patrick O’Connor, is a solicitor, coroner, notary public, arbitrator, and former president of the Law Society of Ireland.

Speaking to the Mayo Advertiser, Mr O’Connor said that in the present economic climate this news is welcomed and commented that he looks forward to ensuring the highest quality in the provision of legal services is continued — in keeping up the tradition in which the firm has provided expertise over the past 110 years.

Mr O’Connor added that he hopes that 2010 will also be a prosperous year for the people of Mayo.

Arthur Cox, Matheson Ormsby Prentice, and William Fry are other firms which have also been announced to be included on the panel.

According to analysts it is expected that the NAMA process will involve expenditure on professional fees and expenses of €2.6bn over the coming 10 years.
