O’Mahony welcomes funding for Foxford Garda Station

Mayo Fine Gael TD, John O’Mahony, is calling for work to commence immediately on Foxford Garda Station, which was damaged over the Christmas period.

Deputy O’Mahony said that he welcomed news confirmed to him by Superintendent of Swinford Garda Station that the funding has been provided to enable the work to start and this will also include some long awaited and much needed interior work to the station to bring it to a more functional standard.

“The gardaí in Foxford hope to provide a clinic style service in Foxford by attending the Community Centre during agreed times and days to meet the community and be in position to provide as much of a service as possible considering the circumstances,” Dep O’Mahony said.

“I would like to commend the Superintendent of Swinford Garda Station Ronan Galligan and Sergeant Judge, Garda Clarke and Garda Coleman for their ongoing work and commitment to provide Foxford with a Garda presence.

“Foxford needs an active and working garda station and it needs it quickly. I welcome the fact that money has been allocated to carry out the repairs but it needs to start now. The Garda Station is part of the fabric of the town and people will feel more secure when it’s open again,” he said.
