Gardaí in Westport are investigating the death of a new born baby.
The body of the baby boy was found in the early hours of the morning in a house near the scenic town.
The discovery was made by gardaí after they went to the house after the mother of the baby was admitted to Mayo General Hospital at approximately 5am where she is still being treated.
A postmortem examination on the baby’s body is due to be carried out today and the scene at the house has been preserved for a full technical examination.
